JUNESEX – new energy straight from the city of love. Brilliancy and madness united in schizophrenic group dynamics. Everybody who likes GIGOLO-Punk, DFA-Style, CHICKS ON SPEED or alternative Hiphop, could fall in love with JUNESEX. Discover this new international style from France: Crazy is king!
The facts:
Junesex comes from Paris and is composed of two couples. They share love and the creation of electronic post-punk chic, the kind we rarely get a chance to listen to.They don't just copy trend - their label is a long half-life period.Electronically generated with a human sync - to hell with dull midi music.Their first step into the open was a highly wayward and remarkably claimed remix for AGORA("Spinach Girl- The Junesex Call"), released in 2003 on PIAS RECORDINGS.It was followed by a maxi vinyl on POPUP-RECORDS with "Fast Food Messiahs", including two remixes of CARL.A.FINLOW (Random Factor) and ELECTRONICAT, which were initially available only in France. In march there followed the release of their album " So Fucking Chic" in France, and its German release will be on july 19th. In the meantime the band played some concerts with CHICS ON SPEED and ELECTRONICAT, among others. Plans are to do more performances in Europe and to be part of the legendary ELECTRONIC ARTS FESTIVAL in Detroit
The music:
Supported by ROMANI from L.A., it starts with "Burger Gravity", a helium-vocal hiphop gag of the better sort.Straight after that we have a reminiscence of the old heros from RUN D.M.C.., coming along as a wayward coverversion of "JJ Billin", with flutes and sick keyboards - very charming indeed. When you get round to the third track, the sensation of having come across a gang of lunatics turns into doubtless truth. "A Finger Or Two" is the obscene attempt to teach us "the real French touch" - whatever the band may know about it."Bodily Fluids On The Carpet. Pt.1" starts innocently, but is nevertheless quite nerve-wracking. The tribute to the hair-raising glamrock scream revival doesn't last, though, fortunately, and it goes over without transition to "Pt.2" - sheer sex dressed in the garment of slow- funk electronica, supported by electric guitars. "Another Fried One" is a tribute to the great French popsinger CLAUDE FRANCOIS and acts as intro for "Gets Close To Mine" : it is a true dancefloor hit, written on the request of firends, who found Junesex' music too little commercial. "Ride My Ghost" is a grimly sneaking accoustic horror soundtrack, which is still waiting for the matching movie. With "I Know What Boys Like" they landed a successful transformation into the present of THE WAITRESSES' classic by the same name - everybody sing along! With their first single "Fast Food Messiahs" Junesesex officially declare the electronic revival dead, and add a fat "Booty" -already a classic. "Come Along Johnny Boy, You've Got To Start Somewhere" brings a ray of hope into this oh so grim world....followed by the philosophical"Silversmile". After this we have a beautifully melancholy interpretation of "A Certain Kind", which is a coverversion of the legendary SOFT MACHINE. The final stroke of this exceptional album comes with "Who Wants Freedom"...."just give us the money" is how it goes on: welcome back to reality. Thank god there is the "repeat all" key.
