Die Geschichte dieser einzigartigen Remix-Platte begann im Oktober 2001,
als alte Mehrspurbänder von Hildegard Knef-Aufnahmen aus den 70er Jahren popup-records von Universal Music zur Bearbeitung zur Verfügung gestellt wurden. Die Bänder wurden im Keller der bisherigen Zentrale am Glockengiesserwall in Hamburg gefunden, als sich der Konzern anschickte, die Koffer für den bevorstehenden Umzug nach Berlin zu packen. Die erstaunlich gut erhaltenen Bänder wurden sofort digitalisiert und ausgewählten Musikern und Produzenten zur Verfügung gestellt, die die Aufgabe hatten, Ihre eigene Interpretation ihres jeweiligen Wunsch-Titels zu produzieren.
Das Ergebnis sind äußerst reizvolle Bearbeitungen von u.a. DJ Koze, Hans Nieswandt, Andreas Dorau, Hofuku Sochi, Markus Guentner, Ascii.Disko, Jetzmann, Mica u.v.m., welche sowohl als Hommage an die inzwischen verstorbene Künstlerin als auch als Transformierung ihrer Musik in die moderne Welt der elektronischen Musik mit all ihren Spielarten verstanden werden sollen. Sie hätte die Bearbeitungen gemocht, so der einhellige Tenor vieler Ihrer Freunde und Begleiter wie der Knef-Biograph und langjährige Freund Axel Andrée, der auch die Linernotes zum Tonträger verfasste. Universal Music veröffentlichte die CD-Version des Albums, während popup-records eine Vinyl-Schallplatte mit zwei exklusiven Remixes herausbrachte. Die vielleicht erstaunlichste Hildegard Knef-Platte.

With the unexpected death of famed movie star and chansonette HILDEGARD KNEF on February 1st 2002, we lost not only one of the most important and versatile personalities in art, but also the last great prima donna, one of the few German artists after 1945 that have become international stars. Her unprecedented career in three artistic genres, was outmost successful throughout almost six decades. During the 1970s HILDEGARD KNEF released her records on the Philips Label. The multitrack tapes from this time served as a basis for the 11 remixed tracks on THE REFORM SESSIONS.
